Microsoft has released Azure MCP Server 3.0 as generally available, extending how AI agents and developer tools interact with Azure through the open Model Context Protocol (MCP). The update builds on the previous preview release with production-ready capabilities across infrastructure automation, model management, and agent orchestration.
What’s new in 3.0
Infrastructure as Code. The release adds Azure Terraform as an MCP tool, enabling agents to provision and manage Azure resources declaratively.
Expanded Model Management. Azure AI Foundry integration provides tools for deploying, monitoring, and routing AI models through Azure, including support for provisioned throughput units.
Agent Orchestration. New MCP tools support multi-agent workflows and observability, enabling agents to coordinate across tools and surface diagnostics.
Why this matters
MCP is an open protocol for connecting AI models to external tools and data sources. By shipping Azure MCP Server as a GA offering, Microsoft is making Azure services directly accessible to any MCP-compatible agent or developer tool. This reduces the integration overhead for teams building AI-powered workflows on Azure.
